Curriculum

Graduated in History at the University of Genoa (Italy) and earned a Ph.D. in Economic and Social History at Bocconi University (Milan, Italy). As visiting professor at Pablo de Olavide University (Seville, Spain), he has taught courses in Economic History (2007) and in the following years (2007-2010). Also, he tutored and taught courses in Economic History; History, Institutions and crises of the global financial system and Institutions and Government and Society at Bocconi University. His Ph.D. dissertation dealt with the Genoese bankers of the XVII century. Since October 2017 he has been working at the GHES (ISEG) of the Universidade de Lisboa (Lisbon - Portugal) as a researcher with a project on the international payments system (16th-18th C.) with a special focus on the exchange rates and the bullion market. His research and academic work is based on some specific topics related to economic and financial history, covering the following major areas: 1. The role of the Genoese financial operators and their professional skill in connection with the emerging European monetary and financial markets (XVI-XVIII centuries); 2. The International exchange market and the mechanisms of international monetary compensation, in particular the exchange fairs of Early Modern Europe; 3. The history of the earliest banks and financial institutions, in particular the cases of the Banco di San Giorgio (Bank of Saint George) in Genoa and the Wisselbank (Bank of Amsterdam) in the Netherlands. His research combines the study of original documents - both from private and public archives. Since September 2021 he has been appointed Temporary Assistant Professor (Rtd B) at the University of Verona.
