Tasks
1. The Department Head represents the Department, presides over the Council and the Board, carries out decisions made, with respect to the objectives laid out in the Department Statute.

2. He is responsible for the administrative and financial management of the Department; he oversees the adherence, within the Department, to laws, the staute and regulations; he maintains relations with the academic organs and performs all the duties which have been assigned to him by law, the statue and the regulations.

3. The Department Head , helped by the Board, carries out the following duties:

a) he annually proposes, and puts to the Council for approval, requests for financing Department research programmes and for the development of didactic activities to be redirected to the competent organs.
b) he proposes the annual programme for seminars and activities which necessitate a financial fee for the Department and puts it to the Council for approval.
c)he prepares an annual report on the state of research and didactics carried out in the Department, articulated within a Development Plan, which is transmitted to the competent organs on approval of the Board. Moreover, with the assistance of the full professors, he draws up an annual plan for assigning posts as laid down by the Department statute.

d) he manages the availability of means, tools and space necessary for the various Department activities to be carried out, and sees to the payment of the relative invoices whilst respecting the autonomy of the professors and researchers in the management of the funds assigned to them specifically.

e)he prepares the Department's annual financial statement of accounts in coordination with the Department organs and the Administrative Secretary.

f) he is responsible for the use of the Department logo in relation with external contacts. He is also responsible for communication outside of the Department through the web page.

4) the Department Head appoints a Vice Director from regular professors who replaces him should he be absent or temporarily unavailable.

5) the Head has the power of advocation on administrative acts only when there is particular need or urgency, specifically indicated in the provisions, and of which the Department Council should be immediately informed.
