Course organization
The course provides:
- The basic elements of knowledge of the spatial data analysis and the geographic information systems in order of their application to territorial analysis of the economic and social system through specific software and case studies;
- Some tools to understand the spatial organization of economic systems, in particular the agro-food system with particular attention to the role of the spatial dimension: the quality of products, links with the territory, the role of policies.
Introduction to Spatial analysis. Visualization, exploration, construction and establishment of models of spatial data. Visualization and exploration of data for small areas. The spatial interaction. The spatial correlation. The exploratory spatial data analysis. The statistics for the exploratory spatial analysis. Exploratory spatial analysis with the use of open-source software. Simple models of spatial regression and spatial analysis. The importance of the agro-food system in Italy and in the main EU countries. The dynamics in consumption and demand for food. The role of the distribution. The national and EU agro-food and rural policies. The globalization of agro-food systems. The role of typical products: the quality agro-food district.
