The Graduate School in Economics and Management (GSEM) of the Universities of Padua, Venice and Verona (Italy) is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of three-year PhD Research Scholarships starting from the academic year 2011-12.

The GSEM at the University of Verona solicits applications for admission to the joint Ph.D. programme in Economics and Finance offered in Verona (see www.univr.it/main?ent=catdoc&id=742&idDest=2&sServ=68&ssServ=127&lang=en). The degree will be awarded jointly by the Universities of Padua, Venice and Verona. Candidates interested in the programme are strongly urged to apply for a scholarship also at the Universities of Padua(see www.unipd.it/unipdWAR/page/unipd_en/research_en1/en_6_3_P1  ) and Venice (see www.unive.it/nqcontent.cfm?a_id=89840 ).

The Ph.D. programme in Economics and Finance is designed to train doctoral candidates in a broad area of advanced study in quantitative methods, economics and finance for careers in teaching and research in universities, in public and private research organizations, in financial and consulting institutions and in private companies. The GSEM recruits promising students from Italy and abroad and all courses are taught in English. Students are accepted directly for the Ph.D. degree. As prerequisite, by July 14, 2011 candidates must hold a five-year bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Italy or the equivalent level of education from an institution outside Italy.

Students are strongly recommended to submit their applications to the programs offered by all Universities (Padua, Venice, Verona). In particular, students willing to focus on Economics should apply for the Ph.D. programmes offered by Padua (Economics and Management), Venice (Economics), and Verona (Economics and Finance).

The admission procedure consists of an evaluation of candidates' qualifications. To apply candidates must send their application following the instructions in the official Call, which can be downloaded from this website:

The deadline for application is June 17, 2011. Successful candidates will be notified by email by July 31, 2011. The Programme will start on October 3, 2011, but a preliminary course in Mathematics will be offered starting September 19, 2011, and all successful candidates are warmly encouraged to attend it.

During the Fall term (October-December), Ph.D. students will attend compulsory courses in Verona (Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, Game Theory, Microeconomics 1, Organization Theory). During the Winter term (January-March), students will attend compulsory courses offered in Padua. During the Spring term (April-June), electives courses will take place in Venice, Padua, and Verona.
