Financial Education Initiatives

The Department of Economics promotes public engagement initiatives dedicated to financial education, understood as an increasingly important competence for individual and collective well-being.

Today, in fact, many economic decisions that in the past were more limited or more highly regulated are increasingly entrusted to the choices of individuals and households. Managing savings, planning for retirement, using credit, obtaining insurance protection, and using digital tools all require a growing level of awareness, also because the regulatory framework, markets, and available instruments change over time. People are therefore called upon to make more numerous, more complex, and often repeated decisions throughout their lives. Understanding the cost of a loan, protecting oneself from inflation, planning for retirement, assessing saving and investment choices, using digital tools safely, and navigating reliable sources of economic and financial information are now essential skills for everyday life and for the informed exercise of citizenship.

In this context, the Department promotes an ongoing series of public meetings dedicated to financial well-being education, as part of its Third Mission activities. These meetings address topics such as income and human capital, savings and inflation, credit and debt sustainability, investment and risk, insurance protection, digital security, and the informed use of economic and financial information.

Initiatives already carried out include:

Activities conducted within the national project “Il Futuro Conta”, coordinated for the Department by Professor Alessandro Bucciol, focusing on topics such as retirement planning, savings management, debt sustainability, and financial behavior.
