The university’s third mission – social involvement and services for the community
The Department of Economic Sciences (DSE) distinguishes itself through its commitment to the Third Mission, promoting initiatives that connect academic research with the region, society, businesses, and institutions. These activities range from scientific dissemination to participation in debates on current issues, from organizing local and international events to enhancing cultural heritage, actively contributing to economic, social, and cultural development.
Below are the main areas of intervention:
- Economics and Current Issues.
The Department organizes events, conferences, webinars, and seminars on relevant economic topics, engaging citizens through participation in television and radio programs at both local and national levels. Activities also extend to social media, fostering a broad and accessible dialogue. - Scientific Dissemination.
The DSE addresses central issues such as artificial intelligence, climate change, the circular economy, gender disparities in the labor market, and brain drain. Within this framework, financial education is also included, with seminars aimed at raising awareness of the importance of responsible personal financial management, as well as economic history, which explores the past to better understand the evolution of economic phenomena. - Economics, Institutions, and Enterprise.
The Department promotes workshops and meetings to foster entrepreneurship among students and strengthen collaboration between universities, institutions, and businesses. Particular attention is paid to corporate innovation processes and economic, social, and environmental sustainability, creating a bridge between academic research, the local territory, and the production sector. - Economics and the Territory.
The DSE’s initiatives aim to enhance the local ecosystem, with specific attention to biodiversity and sustainability in mountain areas. These activities contribute to the economic and environmental development of the territory, promoting a connection between communities and research. - Living Lab.
The “Living Lab” is an innovative collaborative space where public administrations, businesses, and citizens work together to identify and develop practical solutions to complex problems. This participatory and interdisciplinary approach encourages concrete and shared projects. - Economics, Health, and Well-being.
As part of the Department’s Excellence Project, the DSE participates in the development of the Health and Well-being Database. This tool supports academic research and provides a concrete contribution to the planning of targeted public policies.
The Department’s Third Mission activities primarily take place at the Santa Marta University Campus in Verona and at the Vicenza Univr Hub (VUH). The latter aims to strengthen the overall development of the University of Verona’s scientific, teaching, and Third Mission activities in Vicenza, consolidating ties with the territory and providing dedicated spaces for collaboration and research.
These initiatives demonstrate the Department's commitment to fostering dialogue between academia, institutions, society, and businesses, contributing to sustainable and inclusive development.
