The topic will be assessing the impact of roads on different outcomes. In the first paper, I examine the impact of roads using a propensity score matching technique in Guatemala. The study benefits from an LSMS dataset which also contains a community level module. Road placement is not random and the paper uses the nearest neighbor methodology to measure the average treatment effects of roads at the level of the Primary Sampling Unit level. In the second study, I examine the impact of roads on deforestation in protected areas using a mix of spatially explicit data. Protected areas are also not randomly located and I use a bivariate probit model to explain the location of protected areas and then examine the effect of roads on forest cover.
