history of economic thought makes students understand the conceptual elaboration which created economics as an autonomous discipline, gradually distancing itself from its ethical, philosophical and juridical origins. The course aims at stressing how the discipline defined itself by means of reflection on economic facts and on the principles which rule them.
The program will consist in the study of the meaning and historical relevance of Adam Smith's work, by means of the analysis of some concepts worked out and elaborated also by other thinkers. This will point out the analytical and exegetical value of these concepts for a better understanding of economic science.
The final exam will be an interview aiming at testing the student's overall knowledge by means of oral questions related to the required readings.
