The course aims at providing undergraduate students with the analytic tools to understand a variety of public finance issues, with particular emphasis on Italian situation. The course covers both normative and positive aspects of public finance.
Topics include welfare economics (first and second theorems), market failures (public goods, externalities, non-competitive market structures and asymmetric information), public choice, income distribution, welfare state, taxation (principle of taxation, tax equity, economic effects of taxation, tax incidence, structural features of the major taxes in Italy).
Textbook references will be given during the course.
The final grade is determined by the performances obtained in a written and in a oral exam on the entire course outline.
