Learning outcomes

The course presents and discusses the principles of free international trade. It aims at creating the skills necessary to evaluate the sustainability of the balance of payments taking into account tariff policies and the regime of exchange rate and capital movements adopted by single countries.

Syllabus

(a) Methodological aspects of free international trade.
(b) Analytical appraisal of the commercial policies pursued by the large emerging economies with whom Italy has established commercial relations.
(c) Tariff and non-tariff barriers. Their influence on the sustainability of growth and economic development.

Detailed reference literature will be provided in the course of the lectures and seminars and will be published in the Department of Economic Science website.

Assessment methods and criteria

An individual written paper no longer than 20 pages to be presented in power point and discussed with the teacher and the student audience in the exam session established soon after the conclusion of the course. Joint papers are allowed. In this case, grading will depend on the quality of the paper as well as that of the presentation.
