Characteristics and purposes
The Bachelor’s Degree Course in Business Administration and Management of the University of Verona aims to train graduates who are able to know and understand the businesses functioning, as well as learn to deal with and manage the emerging decision-making problems of the various corporate functions with rigorous method. Especially, this Bachelor’s Degree Course offers students a solid theoretical-conceptual and applicative basic preparation in the accounting and management fields to analyze, measure and critically interpret business phenomena, as well as face and manage in a conscious and autonomous way the decision-making problems emerging. The business functions included in the various teachings are accounting and budgeting, management control, financial intermediation, human resources management, logistics, management, marketing, planning and business organization. These skills are also acquired through the study of subjects belonging to the economic, legal and quantitative disciplinary fields, which strengthen the cultural and professional preparation offered. The teaching plan presents, starting from the first year, courses in business, economics, mathematics-statistics and law, which are placed "in sequence of study" in the various years of the degree course, in such a way as to accompany students in the acquisition and understanding of the necessary in-depth skills. The structure of the degree course includes a unitary path in the first two years. In the third year, it is divided into basket in relation to some business, economic and legal teachings, in order to allow students to deepen some subject areas according to the main career opportunities that characterize this type of bachelor’s degree. During the three years of the course, students can adapt their study plan to their individual goals through the activities that they can choice. The course of study, activated at the Verona campus, is in Italian, with the obligation for students to acquire in the first year the linguistic competence of the English language, which is also necessary to benefit from the opportunity to carry out study experiences at the abroad thanks to various international mobility programs such as Erasmus+ and Worldwide. In support of traditional teaching ways (lectures and exercises), the course is enriched by the participation of scholars, including those from abroad, and by expert practitioners such as entrepreneurs, managers and business consultants. In some teachings, participatory teaching methods are also adopted such as group work, business case studies, classroom interventions of company testimonials, and laboratory activities in the form of business games to encourage the acquisition of soft skills. In order to allow students to experience on the job the knowledge acquired during the university career and to acquire specific professional skills, by favoring the possibility of entering the world of work, the degree course provides for the obligation of internships in private or public companies, non-profit organizations, professional firms and auditing firms in Italy and abroad.
Work areas
In addition to the continuation of studies in the courses of master's degrees, especially in the economic-business area, the Bachelor’s Degree Course in Business Administration and Management aims to create professional figures able to cover operational, management and consultancy roles. The skills acquired in the various corporate functions can be spent in different industries such as the agri-food , industrial, commercial, touristic, cultural, banking and financial in Italy and abroad. Furthermore, graduates in Business Administration and Management can spend the professionalism acquired as follows:
- auditor / accounting experts
- employees in organizations and associations, private companies and auditing and business consulting firms - employees in consultancy firms and accountants
- freelancers.
They can access the registration in the Register of Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts in section B (after passing the State exam) in order to become auditor / accounting experts and being able to carry out the activities contained in the Legislative Decree 34/2005, art. 1.
From school to university
Access to the Bachelor’s Degree Course is scheduled locally, in the ways and terms set by the annual call. To be admitted to the Degree Program, it is necessary to have a high school diploma or other qualification obtained abroad, recognized as suitable. In addition, students must have acquired suitable basic knowledge about the two following aspects: 1) logical-mathematical knowledge, i.e. understanding and production of logical and quantitative reasoning also through the use of basic mathematical notions; and 2) linguistics and
verbal knowledge, i.e. knowledge of the grammatical structures, syntax and lexicon of the Italian language and ability to read and understand texts to use all or part of the information. The verification of possession of the aforementioned basic knowledge takes place through the admission test. The negative outcome of this verification does not prevent enrollment. If the verification is not passed, students are assigned additional educational obligations (OFA). To this end, special OFA recovery paths and specific checks are organized during the first year of the course. If the OFAs are not recovered before the end of the first year, students will not be able to enroll in the second year of the degree course, by remaining enrolled in the first year as repeaters (consequently, they will not be able to take exams of the second year, but they can only complete those of the first year). Tutoring, counseling and job orientation services are guaranteed, as well as assistance for students with disabilities. There are incentives, contribution reductions and scholarships for deserving students. The Degree programme annual factsheet (SUA-CdS), which is currently available only in Italian, is a valuable tool that can be used by the University to design, implement and reorganise, as well as to evaluate, each degree programme. However, the SUA-CdS factsheet is also useful for students, to help them choose the right programme of study.
